Carry Me Back
You gotta tough walk and a smooth talk, but there's a long line of your loud barks. And I bet your bite don't have too much sting. So you've had your share of heartache and pushing your brand of lost ways. Well boys you ain't Johnny Cash just cause you play and sing.
Somebody carry me back down to the farm and up the valley where they fear God, and everybody knows their family tree. Where a helping hand is commonplace there's homemade dumplins and no more hate, carry me back to a new old Virginny.
Now there's new wolves hunting old sheep. And political celebrities they plan to give us a little more of the American dream. But I say the slave trade of today is the poor man and his poor fate while be buy a little more high society.
Somebody carry me back down to the farm and up the valley where they fear God, and everybody knows their family tree. Where a helping hand is commonplace there's homemade dumplins and no more hate, carry me back to a new old Virginny.
Cause I need a porch swing or a river bank. Where I went to skip rocks with Paw on Sunday. And all the songs there they won't sound the same and a handshake gets you money at the bank.
Somebody carry me back down to the farm and up the valley where they fear God, and everybody knows their family tree. Where a helping hand is commonplace there's homemade dumplins and no more hate, carry me back to a new old Virginny.
Somebody carry me back to a new old Virginny.
Carry me back to a new old Virginny.
Cowboy State of Mind
This cowboy state of mind I'm in has got me blowing in the wind and I don't care too much to track the time. This air is dry and the ground is bare so I'm moving on why should I care? Town to town with a pistol by my side.
I cowboy on this trail that I call home. It won't be long 'fore my epitaph's in stone. It's back to the ground from where I came. May my mark be made. Cowboy's they don't stay in graves for long.
With herds to move and outlaws to see it's a long ride and no it ain't easy from high country with stops all the way down. They squeeze before they call you out backshooters waiting to take you down. Want my face in the dirt and the rest of me hung in town.
I cowboy on this trail that I call home. It won't be long 'fore my epitaph's in stone. It's back to the ground from where I came. May my mark be made. Cowboy's they don't stay in graves for long.
Feel the earth it moves beneath my feet. And I know there's something bigger than me. In saddle bags the truth I keep. I never shot first so don't shoot me.
Dust off my boots I'm moving out and that poker hand should cover most my route. The round I bought the marshall now buys my time. I'm a hired hand when I ride in but the town it talks so low's my brim. This red bandanna reminds me who I am.
I cowboy on this trail that I call home. It won't be long 'fore my epitaph's in stone. It's back to the ground from where I came. May my mark be made. Cowboy's they don't stay in graves for long.
Lovin' Around
It gets so lonely to sit in one place. On my city street it seems all we do is drink. There's plenty of faces, I don't wanna know their names no more.
We get so tired to go at this pace. Oh but life gets inside you and puts you in the race. We think it's required to keep things in place but, Oh Lord!
We're just wanting someone to love and to be the one that that someone dreams of. And we're tired, so tired of loving around.
But out in the country there's time to think. And I know the faces and they know my name. It's bittersweet to be a part of this place. So no matter the road I guess the culture don't change. Because beer isle or the bar you'll find the people the same. We're standing in line just hoping for a better way.
We're just wanting someone to love and to be the one that that someone dreams of. And we're tired, so tired of loving around.
And I'm just wanting someone to love and to be the one that that someone dreams of. And I'm tired, so tired of loving around.
Raining & Cold
Oh yesterday, it seems so far away. When you woke up next to me and we shared in ecstasy. Now my phone don't ring, because you ain't calling me. And it's raining & cold.
Didn't I do the things to try make you the queen? I went down to your garden from the chalice I took a drink. I still got the grail in hand but it can't keep me from this wasteland, where it's raining & cold.
This ain't the first rodeo I've seen you know. Yeah I've been knocked down before. Can't have you misleading me and no more mistreating me. Cause I'm good at doing bad alone.
The end would be a shame, regardless of who's to blame. And where would I find to kiss a pair of sweeter lips? He was more of a prophet than he was a weather man, cause in my heart it's raining & cold.
This ain't the first rodeo that I've seen you know. Yeah I've been knocked down before. Can't have you misleading me and no more mistreating me. Cause I'm good at doing bad alone.
TroubleTown
The wind is howling like hell, sounds of tortured screams you know so well. Something's burning, greed you can smell. I've been up on one and dragged around by the other in this two horse town. Now the sirens are the only sound.
The house is on fire and we can't stop it now. Let the wind be the fuel to burn this mother down. And on the courthouse lawn we'll all gather around to get us warm, cause it's cold in Troubletown.
Scared or strong both knees will shake. Like the hand holding the blackest coffee you ever ate. Fate of our father's and we can't escape. Besides we did nothing to make a change. Whatever is served on the ladle of the day. This humble pie ain't only for the saved.
I see you working hard, nose to the ground. But the rules are all different now. We've been pruned best to find out how. This wind will cut you to the bone. Make you forget all you've ever known. Time to find us a new home.
The house is on fire and we can't stop it now. Let the wind be the fuel to burn this mother down. And on the courthouse lawn we'll all gather around to get us warm, cause it's cold in Troubletown.
The embers lay fog to the ground. This rain's gonna fall before the sun comes around. If we rebuild the walls of this town. Let us not lay a stone before we're humbled down. And let love be your cornerstone in Troubletown. Let love be your cornerstone in Troubletown.
Till It Hurts
At a cloudy baseball game down in Atlanta. In rain delay spilled hotdog down your shirt. I knew I had to know your name and offer to buy you dessert. Then something in my chest moved till it hurt.
Now the more I see of you the less I work. And that might make me lazy poor or worse. But when we go out to eat tonight I'm hoping you reach for your purse. Even my pride loves you till it hurts.
You wonder why folks know me all around? See cause I've been thrown from about every bar in town. So if we must go out stay alert and it's a good thing you're a nurse. I'm taking my baby dancing till it hurts.
See I know that your Mom and Dad don't like me. And just like them we are from different worlds. But please don't ever take your love to spite me. Because if you do no Doc could get me well, and nothing in this world could make me worse. That's how much I love you... Till It Hurts
Don't you ever worry about my loyalty or wonder if I'll care when we're older. Whatever pain or pleasure brings no it won't ever quench my thirst. And I will always love you till it hurts.
Whatever pain or pleasure brings it won't ever quench my thirst. And I will always love you till it hurts. And I will always love you... Till It Hurts
Feel Me Breathe
I'll use my hands to guide my way through. Because they say love is blind and i can't lose my head too. Like the dog at the tracks when no train whistle blew. Now there's no looking back and my heart is your coup.
Hold on tight to me. Use your hands to see. You know I'm there, can't you feel me breathe?
Secondary intention, took some time to get through. Had to heal from the inside because this world is so cruel. Now faith is a fire from love's humble flame. Who's only desire is that you burn the same.
Hold on tight to me. Use your hands to see. You know I'm there, can't you feel me breathe?
A man won't meant to live alone. And faith is love, this much I know. So if you get scared when you're letting go, just use your hands. You can feel your way home.
Hold on tight to me. Use your hands to see. You know I'm there, can't you feel me breathe?
Better Than Time
I'll always long for you. In the night, in the day and endless morning dew. Tried my own way and that won't do. So you're the one I bring my troubles too.
And you're better than time. You are the divine. Like wild horses in summer time in your beauty I'm subdued. And you're all that I seek. So please stay inside of me, be the strength that I need. Always with you.
If I ever fall again it won't compare to the love and fear that we share. Cause you're eternal and that don't end. So may I never replace you with the apple again.
And you're better than time. You are the divine. Like wild horses in summer time in your beauty I'm subdued. And you're all that I seek. So please stay inside of me, be the strength that I need. Always with you.
Jesus you cured us. Jesus you came so us sinners no longer have to be slaves.
Jesus you suffered, your glory in pain. Now up high at his right hand, my Lord you were raised.
Jesus you cured us. Jesus you came so us sinners no longer have to be slaves.
And you're better than time. You are the divine. Like wild horses in summer time in your beauty I'm subdued. And you're all that I seek. So please stay inside of me, be the strength that I need. Always with you.
You're better than time......
